October is Fire Prevention Month and West Pierce Fire & Rescue is especially excited to take part. WPFR is partnering with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to spread the word about fire safety and this year’s theme is simple: Every second counts – plan 2 ways out! Here’s a short video to help you plan your fire escape plan with your family.

The steps to create a fire escape plan are simple:
1.  Draw a map of your home
2.  Visit each room and find two ways out
3.  Make sure your home has working smoke alarms* and mark their locations on your fire escape plan
4.  Choose a meeting place outside, in front of your home, where everyone will meet in case of a fire.
5.  PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!!!

Now it’s your turn! Make your family’s fire escape plan using this grid and instruction sheet.

*Do you know what kind of smoke alarm you have in your home?
With so many on the market, be sure to Know Your Alarm! Know Your Battery!  Still need help with your smoke alarms?  Are they more than 10 years old?  Are they working?  Do you have one in and outside each sleeping area?  If not, please call us!  Our grant-funded smoke alarm program allows us to come to your home to assess your smoke alarm needs, then replace or install any alarms you may need at absolutely no cost to the resident.  Please call 253.983.4583 to schedule an appointment.
