Hazardous Materials Call Turns Out to be Pudding Mix

Lakewood, Wash. – At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16th, West Pierce Fire & Rescue was called for a possible hazardous materials incident at Clover Park Technical College, located at 4500 Steilacoom Boulevard SW in Lakewood.
Upon arrival, firefighters were briefed that a student found an envelope on his vehicle in the parking lot. He took the envelope into one of the buildings and noticed a powdered substance. He contacted campus security, who took the envelope and sealed it in a plastic bag and placed it in his security vehicle.
West Pierce Hazardous Materials technicians were assisted by Central Pierce Fire & Rescue to identify the substance, which turned out to be pudding mix.
The incident took approximately three hours to complete and ensure the safety of students, staff, and others on Clover Park Tech’s campus.
