Off-Duty Firefighter Assists Neighbor

West Pierce Fire & Rescue

University Place, Wash. – Just because a firefighter is off-duty, doesn’t mean they won’t respond to someone in need. Captain Jeff Colquhoun was recognized at a recent Board of Fire Commissioners meeting and presented with a Merit Award for his heroic acts while at home.

Commissioners meeting November 3

Jeff’s son-in-law is a volunteer firefighter and his pager went off one day for a cardiac arrest call. His daughter and son-in-law were driving when the call came in and realized the address was directly across the street from Jeff’s house. Jeff’s daughter Bambi, who is a dispatcher with us at FireComm, immediately called Jeff to tell him what was going on. Jeff ran across the street with his son and son’s friend and performed CPR on the man in need.

We wish to recognize not only Jeff, but his entire family for their quick thinking and heroic actions. Congratulations to all on a job well done and for making us very proud!
