Church Fire Contained Due to Sprinkler Activation
Lakewood, Wash. – At approximately 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 17th, West Pierce Fire & Rescue was called to the Full Gospel Tacoma Fire Church, located at 6119 96th Street S in Lakewood for a water flow alarm. Crews arrived to the church to find nothing showing from the outside, but could hear an alarm sounding. Within minutes, crews found smoke in the building and called for a commercial fire response.
A small fire had started in the attic and the sprinkler system activated, containing the fire to that area. Due to the water in the church, the ceiling became unstable and it was not safe to hold services. While water damage was the most significant issue with this fire, it could have been much worse had a sprinkler system not been in place. The cause is currently under investigation.
