An Amazing Citizen…Who Is Nine

Meet Alex, a 9-year-old Lakewood resident who is currently spreading the love with random acts of kindness.  You may remember her from last year as she set a goal of completing 600 in honor of her grandmother’s passing.  This year she is back and has raised the bar to 6,000.   One of our firefighters met Alex when she walked into the station on Pacific Highway in Lakewood a few weeks back with a giant card and a box of Original House of Donuts.  She and her mother explained her goal and how she wanted to thank West Pierce for their service.

Alex came to the Board of Fire Commissioners meeting this evening to be recognized for her selfless service and presented the employees of West Pierce with 250 paracord bracelets. In return, she was given the first ever West Pierce Chief’s coin for her initiative and compassion.  As Chief Sharp explained, “these coins are only given to people who show either compassion, initiative or leadership.  Being the Fire Chief, I’m the only one who can hand these out, and I’m happy to say you’re the first to receive one.”

Alex read a speech she wrote explaining her journey and how she came to completing this task today, then handed out bracelets to all of the members in attendance of the meeting.

Of course, no visit to the fire station is complete without a tour.  She did make one special request; to see the exercise room.  She said she loves to exercise and running is one of her favorites.  She also explained that when she grows up she wants to be an “active boss”, which her leadership skills clearly showed tonight.   She then ran to the engine, where she proudly showed off her Chief’s coin while asking the firefighters pose with a peace sign.

Random Acts of Kindness 05We are happy to have Alex as a community member, as she clearly shows leadership, compassion and initiative, making a great role model to follow.  This third grader has set the bar high and we applauds her for her accomplishments!
