SUMMARY:University Place Christmas Tree Lighting
DESCRIPTION:Invite your family and neighbors to come out for a very special evening and community event on Friday\, Dec. 1 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. in Market Square for the lighting of the University Place Christmas Tree. This continues our new tradition in U.P.\, with the annual Christmas tree lighting festivities beginning after dark amid the holiday lights of Market Square. \nThe fun will begin at 4:30 p.m. when school performances start. Santa arrives on a West Pierce Fire Truck at 5 p.m. As in years past\, little dancers from University Place will be on hand to escort the Jolly Ol’ Elf inside for pictures at the Atrium fireplace while U.P. students perform festive holiday tunes outside in Market Square. The lighting of the tree will take place at 6 p.m. and Santa pictures will continue until 7:30 p.m. The cost of the photos will be $5 and benefit the Curtis Key Club of University Place. \nPlan to make an evening out of this special celebration. Bundle up the kids\, admire the twinkling lights and snack on Top Pot Doughnuts and Hometown Dogs while staying warm by the outdoor fireplace. What better way to mark the beginning of the holiday season than by making memories that will last a lifetime and celebrating with your community in the heart of U.P. – the Village at Chambers Bay.

DESCRIPTION:Make a Difference Day is scheduled and being hosted by the City of Lakewood in two locations\, each from 8:30 am – noon. \nFort Steilacoom Park\n– Tree planting around Waughop Lake\n– Restoring historic grave markers \nLittle Church on the Prairie\n– Operation Christmas Child – packing boxes to be delivered to children in countries around the world who lack basic items like shoes and socks\, and who may have never tasted candy! We will be making an item to send and writing a personal note\n– LASA Box Wrapping – we will team with the Living Assistance Support Alliance (LASA) here in Lakewood to help them wrap items for the holidays. Their headquarters is a few blocks from our church.\n– Moldova Girls – Moldova is one of Europe’s poorest countries. Help cut fabric (bring scissors!) to be made into necessary items for girls ages 10-18.  They will be delivered by the project leader when she goes there on a mission trip in 2018. \nFor more information\, please visit www.cityoflakewood.us.

DESCRIPTION:The Lakewood Police Department is offering FREE Adventure in Boating Education classes. \nCurrent state law requires those 59 years of age and younger to have in their possession a boater’s education card if they are operating a powered watercraft of 15 horsepower or greater.  The fine amount for not having a card is $99.00 dollars.  The classes will be held at the Lakewood Police Station\, located at 9401 Lakewood Drive SW. \nParticipants should bring their own snacks/beverages – only a ½ hour lunch break will be offered.  After completing the class\, participants will be provided their certificate and application for the boater’s education card.  A $10.00 fee will have to be paid to Washington State Parks for the actual boater’s education card.  The card doesn’t have an expiration date so no future renewal costs. \nRegistration which is FREE as well is done through the City of Lakewood website.   For more information or questions\, please contact Dennis Higashiyama at 253.983.7835.
