Hazardous Materials Response in Lakewood

Hazardous Materials Response December 2015

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on December 2nd, West Pierce Fire & Rescue responded to a possible hazardous materials call at 6020 Main Street SW #F in Lakewood. Those in the suite stated there was an odor in the building like ammonia. Everyone was evacuated and evaluated by firefighters for medical aid. They continued to be assessed and one was later transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

West Pierce Fire & Rescue called for the Pierce County Hazardous Incident Team (PCHIT) to respond to the scene for assistance. Crews evacuated the rest of the building as a precaution and accessed each suite with air monitors to test for any hazardous materials. All readings came back normal and there was no threat to the building or area. All employees were cleared to go back into the building and resume business as usual by 4:45 p.m.
