West Pierce is TEAM GINA

It is with a heavy heart that we change our cover photo on Facebook today. One of our retired dispatchers, Gina Moberg, lost her eight-year battle with breast cancer last evening.
You may recognize this photo, as we had it as a cover photo once before in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. What you might not be able to see is that most of our shirts say TEAM GINA on them, as we rallied around her while she fought. We then framed a copy of photo and presented it to her at an annual banquet, where she had no idea what we’d done. West Pierce Fire & Rescue is TEAM GINA and continues to be for her friends and family.
Moberg, age 44, started with the Lakewood Fire Department in Fire Comm, our regional dispatch center, in 2002. During her tenure, she held union leadership roles for eight years and received many letters of commendation for her hard work. Gina spent over 12 years in Fire Comm as a dispatcher and loved her job. She retired in 2015 when her illness no longer allowed her to return to work.
Gina will be sorely missed, not only by those she worked with on a regular basis, but by all who knew her. One thing about the fire service is the concept of family and when you are hired, you gain more than 200 new relatives right away. Each and every one of us feels the loss, as we have lost a member of our family. Her friends and family, especially husband, Jeff, and her sons are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
