Entry-level Positions at West Pierce Fire & Rescue

Administrative Assistant
The Administrative Assistant generally serves as the first point of contact for citizens visiting the fire stations and calling with inquiries. This position is responsible for maintaining comprehensive knowledge of community resources, to provide information and/or referrals for those we serve. The individual will perform a variety of routine office tasks, such as designing and organizing custom forms, records, reports, meeting minutes and files. The Administrative Assistant will efficiently perform assigned duties and provide outstanding customer service, for the presentation of a professional office environment.

Base salary range: $3,710 – $4,662/month

Business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Administrative Assistants are assigned a schedule to accommodate these hours. This is a non-exempt position (overtime eligible) and represented by the Professional Fire Service Administration Guild (PFSAG). Facilities Maintenance Technician

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a broad variety of custodial upkeep, general repair and preventative maintenance for the District’s facilities. The Technician also maintains grounds and related equipment. The Facilities Maintenance Division is vital to ensuring the professional appearance of all District properties. On occasion, this position may be required to respond after hours to emergent facility needs.

Base salary range: $4,849 – $5,606/month

This is a non-exempt position (overtime eligible) and is represented by the International Association of Firefighters, Local 1488. Firefighter
Firefighters perform a vast array of essential services within our community, such as responding to fire incidents, emergency medical aid calls, technical rescue, hazardous materials and special operation scenarios. Firefighters are generally the first to provide assistance to the citizens WPFR serves in their time of need. In 2016, our District responded to nearly 16,000 incidents. In addition, firefighters participate in business inspections, public education and community events.

Base salary range: $4,983 – $6,998/month

This is a non-exempt position (overtime eligible) and is represented by the International Association of Firefighters, Local 1488. IT Technician
The IT Technician is responsible for maintaining comprehensive knowledge of information technologies in order to support both employees and a variety of citizens using District facilities. The position provides a range of routine computer maintenance for all desktops, mobile devices, printers, servers, switches, routers, wireless access points, firewalls and more. The individual is also responsible for all operating system updates and replacements, along with using those resources to secure and maintain connectivity. IT Technicians serve as software expert in a variety of office and District-related applications both on premise and in the cloud. Public safety demands 24/7 support to maintain the best level of response service for WPFR citizens. The position may be required to work outside of traditional work hours to accommodate technological needs of the District.

Base salary: $8,373/month

This is an exempt position (ineligible for overtime) and the employee is provided a personal services contract. All West Pierce Fire & Rescue employees are provided a comprehensive benefits package. Mechanic
The Mechanic performs inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs for the District’s fleet of more than 70 vehicles, boats and equipment such as generators, compressors and power tools. The Fleet Maintenance Division is essential in providing reliable functionality of all vehicles, as the majority of apparatus respond to emergency incidents 24 hours a day. This position may be required to respond after traditional work hours for emergency repairs.

Base salary range: $5,501 – $6,367/month
