Brush Fire Impacts Local Mobile Home Park

At approximately 2:20 p.m. on Friday, August 4, West Pierce Fire & Rescue (WPFR) responded to reports of a brush fire at 146th Street and Murray Road in the Woodbrook neighborhood of Lakewood. The brush fire quickly spread to the neighboring Jamestown Mobile Home Park, located at the 7100 block of 146th Street. Residents in the mobile home park were evacuated right away. The fire destroyed nine mobile homes and five additional sustained damage. Unfortunately, during their search, firefighters found two victims.

Pierce Transit responded to the scene with a bus to provide temporary shelter to evacuated residents in the summer heat and the Red Cross is assisting those displaced from their homes.

Neighboring fire departments assisted WPFR in ensuring the community was safe during this time. Multiple agencies backfilled West Pierce stations so 9-1-1 calls in Lakewood, University Place and Steilacoom did not go unanswered.
