Lowered Burn Ban
Due to cooler weather and a drop in temperatures, West Pierce Fire & Rescue (WPFR) is lowering its burn ban to align with the upcoming reduced burn ban for unincorporated Pierce County.
In July, WPFR upgraded its burn ban because of a countywide uptick in grass fires. WPFR crews responded to approximately 93 brush fire calls this summer.
What’s changed?
- Small recreational fires are now allowed. This includes outdoor fire pits, backyard fire pits, and outdoor fireplaces.
What remains the same?
- Outdoor burning is still NOT allowed within WPFR’s jurisdiction. Burning trash and/or yard debris is prohibited year-round.
- Backyard barbecues using gas, charcoal, or wood grills are permitted.
This burn ban applies to all cities within WPFR’s jurisdiction, not just unincorporated areas.
If you live within WPFR’s jurisdiction, visit the Outdoor Burning webpage for more information.
