WPFR Attends Funeral Services for Fallen Idaho Firefighters

Representatives from West Pierce Fire & Rescue (WPFR) joined fire service members from across the country in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, this week to help honor the Idaho firefighters tragically ambushed and killed in Coeur d’Alene.

WPFR Commissioners Scott Casebolt and Scott Dellinger, Captain Marney Fuller-Van Slyke, and retirees Shawn Lamb and Steve Tank traveled with the nonprofit Puget Sound Firefighters Pipes and Drums to be part of the mass ensemble of pipers and drummers taking part in the tribute.

“It’s an honor for us to be representing West Pierce and Pierce County along with 150 other pipers and drummers from all over North America supporting our brothers and sisters in Coeur D’Alene,” said Commissioner Casebolt. “Honoring them this way at these memorials will hopefully help their families and Fire Service families heal from this horrible, senseless, and tragic loss.”

Additional WPFR firefighters, representing the District and Local 1488, are also present to stand in solidarity with their Idaho brothers and sisters.

“It is an honor to be here representing Local 1488 and West Pierce Fire & Rescue. Our Members and hundreds of firefighters from all over the country have made the trip to pay our respects and show our support to Brother Morrison and Brother Harwood’s families,” said Battalion Chief Mark Giron. “These are emotional events that should make us reflect on what matters most. Joe, Brother Morrison’s son said it best: ‘Take care of your people, love your family, and be good at it like my dad was.'”

The Celebration of Life for Battalion Chief John Morrison Jr. of the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department took place on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

A second funeral service honoring Battalion Chief Frank Harwood from Kootenai County Fire & Rescue will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. PDT.
